In the month of September and welcoming the fall season, symphoniaASSAI will be performing at BOZAR Brussels and Casino Beringen with a program of Russian music for strings linked to Tchaikovsky. Tickets here!

Program:

Vladimir Rebikov - Feuilles d'Automne

Anton Arensky - Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky

Peter Tchaikovsky - Serenade for Strings

The program is built around the beautiful Serenade for Strings by Peter Tchaikovsky, one of the most important romantic compositions of the repertoire for string orchestra, in the company of two of his less known contemporaries, whose music is inseparable from the style of Tchaikovsky.

Anton Arensky wrote his Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky (1894) as a tribute to the composer and friend of his, deceased a year earlier. The work, based on a theme from the Children's Songs by Tchaikovsky, was initially intended as a string quartet, but was later transcribed into a composition for string orchestra. It would become one of his most popular works.

Feuilles d'Automne, a relatively early work by Vladimir Rebikov in 6 short movements, was originally written for piano, but later orchestrated for string orchestra by the author himself. It breathes without doubt the romantic influence of Tchaikovsky, but also refers inevitably to the dreamy and poetic language of Alexander Scriabin.
