De 4 Jaargetijden - 10.30

What connection, if any, exists between music and visual imagery? Can a musical composition meaningfully be compared to a painting or directly linked to an image?

Over the centuries, many composers have taken inspiration from visual art, from the works of other artists or from the beauty in nature. Northern pictures brings a view on the music and landscapes of the North of Europe. A journey, from west to east and across the Baltic Sea, through the music of three composers who accomplished to “paint” the world that surrounded them. The concert concludes with perhaps the most famous musical rendering of graphic art, Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. But the other pieces on the program will also bring images to mind.
